Adverts on TV are usually rubbish, but occasionally a very funny advert crops up. Here's a whole collection of very funny ads.
Cooking by numbers 22 Aug 2006
Recipes often frustrate me... well cooking is all too frequently frustrating in itself but finding a tasty looking dish in the cookbook only to then have to run down to Sainsbury's for the ingredients gets tedious. I had this idea ages ago of getting together a database of good meals so I'd then be able to query it according to what was already in the fridge. They've beat me to it...
Online hearing test 17 Aug 2006
This is very interesting. Play various mp3s of tones at different frequencies and find out if you can hear them. You probably need reasonably good speakers though.
Visual search engines 17 Aug 2006
Came across Riya recently which puts an interesting spin on the still fairly new wave of photo management websites. Riya can analyse the photos you give it using face detection and can guess very accurately who the people are in your photos . It can also do character recognition to spot signs and logos. Very clever!

Here's a link to an audio clip that's relevant to today. Unfortunately I wasn't able to shorten it to the first 14 seconds or so... Be warned! There are a few rude lyrics thereafter . Listen here.

Just retracing some of my steps using Google Earth and Google Maps and noticed that the reservoir in Central Park looks as if it's either got a very narrow bridge across it or a tunnel. How great would a glass underwater tunnel be ! See for yourself.

Chelsea lose community shield 13 Aug 2006
Liverpool beat Chelsea 2-1 today! Even the new England captain John Terry couldn't influence the outcome. Although I think it's a good choice of captain by new England coach Steve McClaren, unfortunately whenever John Terry's name is mentioned, I just see the incident of Ronaldinho running him over and scoring in last year's Champion's League. It was a superb goal. Oh, and he scored against Che...

Pandora 13 Aug 2006
Listen to streamed music that is customised to suit you! Pandora asks what songs you like then introduces similar music by different artists. Then by rating new songs, you can train their algorithm to make better introductions. It's like the best radio station ever.
Flight sims 12 Aug 2006
Goggles isn't a proper flight simulator like the ones used to train pilots but an online game that makes clever use of Google Maps.

Mango book club 08 Aug 2006
A few weeks ago, Mango book club sent me a parcel with a book that was apparently the Editor's choice for me. It certainly wasn't my choice. As far as I was aware, I never signed up to this book club and did not owe them £1.99 for their trouble. The bill then went up to £14.99 and I was on the verge of being referred to a debt collection agency. I found this out when I got back from my recent t...
