Super Mario Galaxy

Splashed out and got Super Mario Galaxy for the Nintendo Wii today, and it's every bit as good as the reviews say it is! Huge attention to detail and loads of levels packed in yet still intuitive to play and altogether awesome!

Pole to Pole

Remember Michael Palin's TV programme Pole to Pole? Interesting as that was, he didn't go from one pole to the other using only human power, he left that to these two nutters. Rob and James (who went to my old school) are already half way there. Why? To highlight climate change and also top what they did last year, becoming the youngest ever Britons to climb Mount Everest.

Toilet Restaurant

Only in Taipei will you find a restaurant like this one. It has bathtubs for tables, and toilets for seats. Even the food is served in miniature loos. Wonder if the actual restroom is decorated like a dining room or kitchen? Might have to check it out over Christmas...

Advancing personal safety

Thought that, with the Meredith Kercher story in the UK news at the moment, it might be good to link to the Lucie Blackman Trust website. It was set up after Lucie Blackman was murdered back in 2000 to help improve personal safety through educating and recommending a range of safety products.

Live sports chat

This is a plug for Sportomaniac - a new user-driven live sports chat site. Sports fans can gather while a fixture is going on and voice their views, vent frustrations and even vote on how well the referee is doing! A demo page is available to check out here.

Registration is required to participate in the banter, but that's quick and easy. A page for a particular event can be created by registered users if one hasn't been set up already. You could chat about the huge games for England and Scotland happening tonight that could decide whether they'll qualify for Euro 2008!

Get podcast transcripts

I discovered the other day that my friend Tom from uni days has set up PodsinPrint.com and I want to give it a plug here. The idea is based around transcribing popular podcasts so that its listeners can read and search through the text - a bit easier than searching through the audio! The subscription fee is very reasonable and the creators of the podcast get royalties. What a great idea!

Can kids watch that film?

Here's a great site for parents - The Parents British Board of Film Classification website. It takes away the problem many parents face when deciding which film to go and watch with their children - that is, whether it will contain scenes or themes that you'd rather not expose to a child (or see yourself).

They go into serious detail for each movie. For example, look at the "Extended Consumer Advice" for The Simpsons Movie.

How to prevent eye strain and RSI

If you spend a lot of the time in front of a computer screen, you might appreciate a little piece of software called WorkRave. It's a free, timer-based app that works out when you need to take a break and also suggests exercises you can do to reduce any eye/muscle strain and generally relax a bit!
