Sacrifices for Medical Research

A somewhat interesting idea...

At J's flat last night, on inviting J's flatmate Martin to the pub

Predicting the FTSE

Those following the progress of my share predictor will have noticed that I've made a little over £100 in four days! And this is despite the FTSE100 plummeting quite impressively. If only I actually had 100 grand to invest in my get-rich-quick scheme... Calvin's got the right idea!

Share predictor

After a fair few months of development, I'm now finally ready to show the world my online share predictor! Right now you're probably thinking, "Yeah right Dave, sure you can predict tomorrow's stock market prices!" But bare bear with me. I'm going to start a little experiment to quiet all you cynics. Yesterday I invested a virtual 100k to buy and sell shares with over the next few weeks. If my program's predictions are any good then I'll make some virtual money! Do however remember how difficult this is. Each deal is costing 15 and there's also a 0.5% stamp duty, not to mention the markets are pretty bad at the moment... but time will tell!

More information on the meanings of all the figures is coming, but all the deals I make can be seen here. Everything's transparent and all questions are welcome. Do not hesitate to email me.

Rejection

My marathon aspirations have taken a slight hit today in that my application has been rejected. Oh well, nevermind. I was really quite gutted, then I had a sudden revelation, and it went a little something like this -

"Actually, sod marathon running! What sort of personality-less loser runs for their dose of exercise anyway? Forrest Gump springs to mind. Okay, so he came good, but is it a sport? Where's the ball? Is it what used to be the balls of my feet just come off in two massive blisters?"

Last weekend I was in Cambridge, this weekend it was the Dark Side. Am I scouting and plotting revenge for the varsity rugby match this Tues? No, I was invited by Oli to a Merton MCR dinner. Any excuse to dust off the old DJ and be Bond-like (apart from the fact my DJ is hole-ridden and Bond can put on a proper bowtie).

For Oxford people Oli's mates seemed quite normal though. Well, those in the hockey team apparently broke three noses in one game the other week so I tried to behave myself. Got sat next to a very rude Rhodes scholar who talked about herself throughout dinner. However, I have to admit, Oxford is quite nice. The dinner followed by pub and then JCR bop (!?) were all fantastic. I think I went to the wrong place!

My quest is starting to get somewhere. Typing "David Butler" into Google places nimisis.com at a dizzy number 34! With all these Butlers giving the rest of us a bad name at the moment (though they're probably innocent I should add), I seem to be getting leap-frogged! Ah well, sooner or later we'll get to the top ten.

5 Canada Square

5 Canada SquareHere's an artist's impression of the Bank of America building down at Docklands I'm working on at the moment. It's actually already looking remarkably similar to this picture. I think it's cool! (If you don't know Docklands, the tower behind is HSBC and Canary Wharf Tower would be where the picture is being taken from.)

I was back in Cambridge visiting friends last night and my walk to catch the train home reminded me of a previous trip down that way in which I luckily found a five pound note on the ground. It made my day! This has inspired a new poll. How much money found on the ground would it take to stop you and pick it up? Don't be shy! Vote, make comments! Downing College's local, The Fountain, used to weld a 50p piece to a manhole cover outside the pub window so that everyone could have a good laugh at the person picking it up... Yeah, how immature... but still funny...
