PetrolPrices.com

PetrolPrices.com is a website I've recently come across. There you can find the cheapest petrol station near your post code. Having just passed my driving test I thought I'd have a look at how much it costs to run a car... Answer: TOO much. If I could live in it and not have to pay rent then maybe. That's actually what this person had to do for a while. Now her blog is being made into a book!

car flagsIn England right now every other car is ornamented in a similar fashion to the one on the right. It's good to be proud of your country and show your support for it, but putting flags of St George on your car does sort of shout, "I'm a bit common." Of course, being a bit common, I'd do it if I had one. After all, Tessa Jowell's even put them on her ministerial car.

Wei Hwa's Puzzle Challenges #2

If a tree falls in the woods because of a wound, then what little object will not hear the sound?

A Why Me Rhyme is a pair of words that look like they should rhyme (after all, only their first letter is different), but don't really. For example, depending on the colorist, Etrigan could be considered a lemon demon. See if you can figure out these twelve Why Me Rhymes from their descriptions:

Thought it might be interesting to simulate the upcoming England vs Paraguay game on Pro Evolution Soccer 5 (yeah, soccer = football to you and me) and see what the result would be. Well, good news, it ended England 3 Paraguay 1. No surprise really. We're well above them in the FIFA World rankings... In fact we're the most highly ranked in the group.

Cool Pool Lounger

A pool, summer sun, one of these motorized pool loungers, and maybe a waterproof tv strapped onto it as well. Can't think of many better ways to watch England win the world cup!

Wei Hwa's Puzzle Challenges

Those with a Google homepage may have noticed a section called "Wei-Hwa's Puzzle Challenges." The first came out on Friday:

Using the numbers 3, 3, 8, 8 (in any order), make a mathematical expression that equals 24. You can use only addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division (and parentheses), but in any order you wish. Note that you have to use all four numbers; otherwise 3 times 8 would be valid -- and that wouldn't be much of a puzzle, would it? Stumped? Look in comments for the solution.

But Dave, you're not a geek!

...so people often reassure me. But sometimes I do geek-like things, like qualify for Google Code Jam Europe. Booyah!

(For those annoyed to have missed it, you can still take part in similar competitions at Topcoder.com. If you sign up, please refer "nimisis". Thanks.)

A couple of useful links for eBay addicts; Hammersnipe, which lets you choose an item you want and will automatically bid on it for you just a few seconds before the auction ends. Saves time and effort! Then there's Typoferret which searches for items with somewhat dubious spellings. The logic being that a misspelled item equals a cheap item, as potential bidders haven't been able to find them!
