How to take great photos

I've made a little slideshow that watches the latest uploaded photos on Flickr. Hopefully might be useful for picking up some tips!

If you already rate yourself as a bit of a photographer, why not try and earn some extra pocket money with those pics?

Grand National 2007

I'm not a betting man, and really not interested in horseracing, but as it's the Grand National this weekend I'm going to put a virtual bet on "Billyvoddan" to be the winner. Hope I'm wrong...

Reality TV

In a way, Justin.tv is a bit like that film The Truman Show, only Justin has consented to wearing a camera that broadcasts his life over the internet live.

"Justin wears the camera 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Even in the bathroom. Even on a date."

New Google Groups

Google Groups BetaI've set up a couple of Google groups for some of the software I've written, namely Flix and Warp. (Their respective groups are here and here.) These two applications are particularly well suited to have their own group or forum as Flix is about making timelapse videos and Warp is about making funny photos, so I'm hoping that folk will feel free to share their creations!

Online world geography quiz

My ignorance when it comes to geography is truly shocking and I've been meaning to do something about it. So, here's a little world geography quiz Google Maps mashup I've whipped up using the Google Maps API. Hopefully you'll learn a few things with it! I'd certainly never heard of the tiny island nation of Pitcairn (population 53) before today...

Thrilla in Antigua

England lost another game in the Cricket World Cup yesterday but at least they did it in style. I was following the match on the Duckworth Lewis calculator and we were cruising till the three quick wickets went down... then I must admit they really pulled it out of the bag to come so close to winning! Come on England.

These Romans are crazy!

Scenes of rioting during the ManU game in Rome last night are all over the back pages today. Seems like the hooliganism baton has been passed on from England to the Italians... Nutty.

As a side note, I just found out that the meaning of SPQR is "Senatus Populusque Romanus", or "the Senate and People of Rome". Modern Italians use a different expansion - Sono Pazzi Questi Romani. In French it's Ils sont fous, ces Romains - They're daft, these Romans, or, as fans of Asterix might prefer to say, "These Romans are crazy!"

Sir Garfield Sobers' six sixes

The feat by Herschell Gibbs the other day was, of course, famously done previously by Sir Garfield Sobers and I found a link to it. Here's footage of the man hitting six sixes in one over against Glamorgan bowler Malcolm Nash in 1968. (If you're not in UK there's a Youtube clip here.)
