Two degrees

You know Facebook is getting popular when your dad joins up...

I've made a web app that uses the Facebook API to find friends that aren't on your list but should be. It's called "Two Degrees" because of the Six Degrees of Separation idea.

Rip Off Britain!

Long have UK consumers felt that products cost more in their shops than in those of certain members of the EU and United States. Is this feeling well founded? Well, using some data provided by PriceCutReview.com, I've matched up 8000+ identical products, taken off VAT for the UK items and applied an exchange rate of two dollars to the pound. Home Information Packs

From today, every property in England and Wales with four or more bedrooms must include a Home Information Pack when it is put up for sale. (The link points to an example template.) Included are documents such as a sale statement and Energy Performance Certificate.

There must be some conflict-of-interest issues in getting sellers to provide honest HIPs. Is this unnecessary and costly bureaucracy? Time will tell, especially as smaller homes will need HIPs in due course. Personally, I think buyers would be wise to gather their own information about a prospective new home before taking on that mortgage!

Are you at risk of flooding?

The damage due to the flooding here in UK is still all over the news, but unfortunately, the worst may still not be over! There's still a load of water that presumably still has to come down the Thames to London...

The environment agency has a useful little utility that lets you check what the risk of flooding is in your area and see a map. Just enter your post code.

What happens to Harry Potter?

Contains spoilers! This post is for those who aren't going to read the final installment of the Harry Potter series, Deathly Hallows, but nevertheless want to know what happens. At this point in time I don't know much about what happens either but I'm sure kind folk who are in the know will contribute in the comments section below.

Facts so far:

  • Hardcover - 608 pages
  • The last word in the book will not be "scar."
  • Two main characters die
