That scene from Mel Gibson's Braveheart springs to mind... Freedom is often taken for granted in UK, but it's clear from this table that it's a luxury in many countries.

This table is obviously coming from the narrow point of view of economic libertarianism.
A proper measure of freedom would include more than just the upper class access as it is in the US for example, but access by all peoples to high quality education. It would also include freedom *from* corporations to pollute our shared world. Freedom from corrupt governments to oppress other countries.
Look up the book "Whose Freedom" for a broader view.
