Trident (not the chewing gum)

Tony Blair, supported by David Cameron, announced a UK order for Trident worth 25 billion today. That's roughly £400 for each member of the population. Is it really worth it?

Dubya loves it, BAE loves it, but 59% of the UK doesn't.

It's interesting to me that the government makes it clear to us that countries in the Middle East have "weapons of mass destruction", whereas the same things in the West are called "nuclear deterrents."

Update: If you're against this, sign the e-petition here.

The question is not just "Is it worth it?" but "Is it right?". I do not think that it can be right to use nuclear weapons that would mean that many non-combatants would be injured or killed. In other words, the use of nuclear weapons does not meet the criteria of a so-called "Just war."
