David Butler MEng MA (Cantab)

SKILLS:

Languages: C/C++, OpenGL, MFC, PHP, X/HTML, CSS.
Databases: MySQL.
Applications: Visual C++ 6, Visual Studio 2005, MS Office 2000.
OSs: MS Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP

EXPERIENCE:
Feb 2003 - Dec 2007

XPI Simulation, Surbiton - formerly known as Primary Image (Graphics) Ltd. Senior software engineer working on visual simulation solutions. My time here has involved the creation of physics models of vehicle behaviour and the writing of multi-threaded applications (so as to process such a dynamic model asynchronously), along with some AI (e.g. autonomous vehicles for road traffic in a driving simulator, described in Training & Simulation Journal July 2005 Vol 6 No.3). I am proficient in OpenGL and am familiar in the use of NURBs and splines for 3D graphical representations of a scene. Knowledge of 3D modelling and object creation has been gained. Some of my non-realtime applications relate to work such as pattern processing for generating virtual world data automatically.

LANGUAGES:

Mandarin Chinese - fluent.

EDUCATION:
1998 - 2002

Master of Engineering MEng (Hons, Cantab) gained at Downing College, University of Cambridge.
Electrical and Information Sciences Tripos, MEng (Hons.) Class II.1. Fourth year major project was related to medical imaging, more specifically 3D ultrasound, and to work on and improve the existing "Stradx" system. This allowed users to see more accurate 3D representations of tumours, blood vessels, foetuses and suchlike. Subjects taken included image processing, 3d graphics, computer vision, linear algebra & optimisation.

1991 - 1998

Christ's Hospital Bluecoat School, Horsham, West Sussex.
Total UCAS points: 45
'A' levels: Maths (A), Further Maths (A), Physics (A), Chemistry (A)
'AS' levels: Add. Further Maths (A)
9 GCSEs including Maths and English (8 at grade A*)

I am a Cambridge engineering graduate with over four years commercial software writing experience - mainly for realtime simulation projects such as car, train and helicopter simulators.

Ideally I would like to work for an innovative software engineering firm that aims to deliver on challenging projects where good team-working and organisational skills are valued.

I currently live in SW London, UK but (given the right job) am willing to relocate to pretty much anywhere in the world. I am fluent in Mandarin Chinese and have a full, clean driving license.
